Анотація "E-book: A Girl of the Limberlost (illustrated)", Джейн Стреттон-Портер
A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton-Porter is a beloved coming-of-age novel that celebrates resilience, self-education, and the restorative power of nature. First published in 1909, the book is set in rural Indiana near the Limberlost Swamp, a richly described natural environment that plays a central role in the story.
The novel follows Elnora Comstock, a poor but determined young girl who dreams of receiving an education despite severe financial hardship and an emotionally distant mother. Living on the edge of the swamp, Elnora turns to nature as both a refuge and a means of survival. She begins collecting rare moths and butterflies from the Limberlost, selling them to earn money for her schooling.
Through patience, intelligence, and perseverance, Elnora learns the scientific study of insects and develops a deep respect for the natural world. Her encounters with teachers, collectors, and neighbors broaden her understanding of life beyond the swamp and help her gain confidence in her own abilities.
