Date: 12 Oct. 2013YE Bookstore and Stary Lev Publishers are happy to invite children and their parents to the presentation the books Knyha moho rodu (“The Book of My Family”) and Rosty, moie derevtse, z hlybokoho korinnia (“My Tree Grows Deep”) and meeting with the author, children’s writer Iryna Matsko on 12 October. Beginning at 12:00. We often lack time and inspiration to make our family tree, gather old family photos, or interview our oldest family members about family history, stories, customs, recipes, or trace down the geography of our family. In 2012, Stary Lev published beautiful family albums which can be completed by readers themselves. Photos, family stories, customs – anything goes. This is self-made history. With a magnificent designer album The Book of My Family, every family can create its unique tome. The project The Book of My Family has become Stary Lev’s unrivalled best-seller, ending up among last summer’s top publications in the Ukraine-wide rating Book of the Year 2012. Family history albums travelled across Ukraine, and now a reprint is being prepared. The strong roots of the first album produced a spin-off, a book for our youngest readers. Even a pre-school child who is just learning to write will be able to fill in this pretty book. Each page is decorated in the style of traditional Ukrainian embroidery, with popular wisdom scattered here and there throughout the book. The author and compiler Iryna Matsko will suggest some useful tips for research into one’s own family history, share her ideas about the importance and ways of consolidation of family traditions in Ukraine and, certainly, tell how she came up with the idea of her albums. Iryna Matsko is a children’s writer, designer, and director of IrMa Press. She also leads the Ternopil branch of the Research Centre for Children’s Literature, the children’s literary festival Dyvokrai (Wonderland) 2011 and 2012 in Ternopil. Besides, Ms Matsko coordinates the Ukraine-wide project Add Reading (Ternopil), and is a member of the Main Jury of the TV Festival Open Ukraine (2008, 2010-12). On top of this, she has set a national record as the author of Ukraine’s biggest hand-made book Kazky iz Dyvokraiu (“Fairy-Tales from Wonderland”).
