“Writing Bratyk Bil, Sestrychka Radist (Brother Pain, Sister Joy) has taken more time than any other of my books, Bohdana Matiyash says. “I wrote the first texts in spring 2010, while the last one was written in spring 2014. I never plan my books or the way they should be written. I haven’t thought of this book either. It was started due to my desire to tell something. I like telling people close to me of what I think, see, feel and live through during my day, though people I can share these things with are not always around. In such a way, I just started to write short texts telling of my random thoughts. These were the thoughts I wanted to share, even those being meaningful only for me. I wrote down even those things I considered too simple or even primitive.”
Bratyk Bil, Sestrychka Radist (Brother Pain, Sister Joy) is a book of essays about simple daily experiences, senses and feelings a person has in one’s life somewhere between joy and pain. The author reflects and marvels about things a person can see every day. This book has no idealizations, showing trust in the world and strong belief that even the biggest pain may ultimately turn into some joy.
